Doing good in Guyana

11/7/11-Monday
Sitting in TGIF's in the Toronto airport amazed by how nice the Canadians are. Last leg of the trip for Cassandra and me going back to the states. Bed at the Holiday Inn in Toronto so comfortable and free internet so useful. The world seems so organized and civilized back in Canada. I completely understand the difference between a first world country and a third world country now. I am looking forward to watching the Bears tonight with my peeps, and to seeing Michael.

Slept ok and awoke early to pack and take the bus to the airport.
This country is so dirty and gross in the city, I can't wait to get home. This in contrast to being on the river in the interior jungle where one doesn't want to leave the paradise.

I'm comin' home by Ditty Dirty Money became our theme song for the last few days as we peeled off. Last day of the trip. Went bird watching at the Botanical Gardens at 5 am. Saw amazing birds and for a non bird watcher, this was as peak an experience as one could have. Andy was an expert guide and we quickly learned to spot and identify a myriad of colorful, parrots, macaws, toucans, kiskadees, orioles, wrens, hawks and you get the idea. Saw a manatee and some cappuchin monkeys as well. Delightful!

Again music blaring all night long, and roosters crowing all night long. Early awakening and we boated to Waramadong village a couple of hours away to hold our final clinic. It was HOT, did I mention that? and we saw lots of teenagers and children as there is a boarding school there for secondary school. Dr Brian, a pediatric nephrologist had joined us and he saw most of the kids while Dr. Fred saw the adult patients.
